  • Hiking in Anaga: Discover the Magical Forest of Tenerife

If you are looking for one of the best excursions in Tenerife to truly connect with nature, the Anaga Rural Park is your destination. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2015, Anaga hides one of the best-preserved laurisilva forests on the planet: a millennia-old ecosystem, full of mystery, humidity and unique biodiversity.

At Tenerife Top Tours, we have been guiding travellers through these magical trails for over 15 years. Whether you prefer to walk through nature at your own pace or are looking for a tailor-made private excursion, we have the perfect option for you.

What is the Anaga Rural Park?

Anaga is a rugged mountain massif located in the far northeastern corner of Tenerife. Its dramatic topography, with deep valleys, sheer ravines and mist-covered peaks, creates a unique microclimate that has allowed the laurisilva forest to survive since the Tertiary era. Here, time seems to stand still.

The park is home to three integral nature reserves: the Ijuana Reserve, the El Pijaral Reserve and the Los Roques de Anaga Reserve, as well as the Monte de Aguirre, with one of the most impressive primeval forests in all of Macaronesia.

Why Visit Anaga?

The laurisilva of Anaga is a living remnant of the forests that covered Europe and North Africa millions of years ago. Walking among its giant ferns, mosses and centuries-old trees is an experience you will never forget. From the peaks of Anaga you can also enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, and on clear days you can even glimpse the neighbouring islands.

The meeting point for the guided trail is the Ermita de la Cruz del Carmen, which has its own car park. The route has easy difficulty and is open to people of all ages with a basic level of fitness. It is recommended to wear hiking boots, warm clothing (the forest can be cool and humid) and to bring water.
