Mount Teide is much more than a mountain — it embodies the natural essence of Tenerife. Rising 3,715 meters above sea level, it is the tallest peak in Spain and one of the most striking volcanic formations in the Atlantic.
🏔 Origin & Geology
Teide began to form around 170,000 years ago, after the collapse of an ancient volcano created the huge Las Cañadas caldera. Through numerous eruptions the volcano continued to grow until reaching its present height. If measured from the ocean floor, its total elevation exceeds 7,500 meters, making it one of the tallest volcanic structures in the world.
🌋 Natural Heritage & Biodiversity
Teide and its surroundings form the Teide National Park, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its almost 19,000 protected hectares include lava fields, unique rock shapes and a landscape that resembles another planet.
Its flora and fauna are adapted to extreme altitude and volcanic soil — red tajinastes, Teide broom, endemic reptiles and a unique ecosystem that does not exist anywhere else.
✨ History & Culture
For the ancient Guanches, Teide was sacred. They called it Echeyde — the home of a powerful spirit. Mythology tells of battles between gods, fire and light, giving cultural depth to every visit.
